Ending uncertainty, Telangana says it will procure rabi paddy

Ending weeks of uncertainty and speculation, the Telangana Authorities has said it will procure paddy and be certain farmers get least aid value (MSP) for paddy for the rabi produce.

“We are scheduling to introduce a controlled procedure wherein the farmers will be specified coupon codes. They can go to the markets and sell their produce at the FCI procurement counters,” Main Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said.

Addressing the discussion on movement of thanks on the Governor’s speech on Wednesday, he said the Authorities would open up procurement centres in the locations exactly where Covid cases are large and in the hinterlands.

Preliminary estimates set the paddy output in the State in the rabi season at a person crore tonnes, with the farmers developing the crop on a history location of fifty two lakh acres.

“You need not be concerned about offering of the produce. I wish the scenario will increase from following 12 months and the farmers will be equipped to sell their produce at the marketyards,” he said.

Stating that he just can’t converse a great deal on an issue at it is sub-judice, he said there was over-all uncertainty about the new (agri) legislation. “We do not which way it will go. The Supreme Courtroom has stayed the legislation,” he said.

“When Parliament makes a legislation, the States are obliged to stick to it,” he said, arguing that there was no way the State can oppose the Central agri legislation.

He alleged the successive governments at the Centre had encroached on State’s subjects in the Concurrent Listing.

He, however, said that the State would go on to operate the marketing committees even if the Central legislation referred to as for elimination of this kind of committees.

He said the State procured all of the produce from the kharif at the farm gate to support farmers all through the Covid pandemic.
